light festival

at the Portland Winter Ice Rink

Make the Rink your home base for the Portland Winter Light Festival!

The Portland Winter Ice Rink will feature an art installation for the Portland Winter Light Festival from youth artist Olivia Cheng and is a great starting point for visiting the Festival. Find easy parking onsite, and we’re just a short stroll away from the downtown Winter Light Festival sites.

Want to take a break during the Festival? The Woodsy Winter Village offers plenty of cozy seating, firepits, and refreshments from local vendors!

Water Tiger

Water Tiger embodies a spirit of courage, strength, and boldness.

The Water Tiger, the symbol for the 2022 Chinese Zodiac, was unofficially adopted by Portland’s City Hall to mark the efforts to bring us all back from the dark times during the COVID-19 lockdown.

In 2024, The Water Tiger continues celebrating the City of Portland’s hard work to reinfuse downtown Portland with vitality. It embodies a spirit of courage, strength, and boldness. What does Portland’s future look like to you?

Creativity

Film Premiere: 8:00 – 10:00pm

"Sparking Creativity" is an emerging docu-series that spotlights artists behind the success of the Portland Winter Light Festival (PDXWLF).

Each 5-minute episode delves into artists' studios, revealing the creative process of their illuminated sculptures and installations. In our first episode, we introduce Tyler Fuqua Creations, sharing the story of 'Mechan 42: Space Traveler' featured at Salmon Street Springs in February 2023. Our director, Jason Hill, adds a warm and humorous touch, contributing to the project's success. Founder Therese Gietler crafts the series as a tribute to PDXWLF, its artists, and Portland.
